Matt Molloy flute supremo joins fiddle maestro, John Carty in the Old Ground Hotel.


Matt Molloy
originally from Ballaghaderreen is one
of the original members of the Bothy Band but is
best known for his involvement for over 20 years with The Chieftains with whom he has travelled the world playing to audiences of thousands.

Matt has released several acclaimed solo albums and has worked with other accomplished musicians. He has teamed up with Paul Brady, Tommy Peoples, Micheál Ó Súilleabháin, Dónal Lunny and the Irish Chamber Orchestra among other artists.

 

John Carty is well known to trad audiences around the globe for his versatility, amazing innovative ideas and truly unique style. He has to date released four solo CDs, one on banjo and three on fiddle. John is also well known as the front man of the band, At the Racket with whom he tours regularly. John Carty is also the recipient of this years TG4 Traditional Musician of the Year, an award won by Matt Molloy in 1999.


Together Matt and John will explore the rich flute and fiddle tradition of North Connaught and beyond. This is a rare opportunity to hear two of the greatest exponents of Irish traditional music. On the night they will be joined by Francis Gaffney on guitar.
